The strong impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus worldwide has paralyzed many aspects of the fashion industry. The industry was working at full capacity before the health crisis and many brands and companies were already clearly committed to be more sustainable and care about the environment around us.
In recent months and weeks many physical projects have come to a standstill, including many events such as catwalks, showrooms or presentations. Some designers have chosen to move their activity to the internet, and thanks to social networks and audiovisual formats have managed to publicize their new collections, clothing and fashion trends.
Before the COVID-19, many brands had adopted a “green” strategy in their events. It was common for designers to fill the ends and sides of the catwalk with dozens of flowers that gave a beautiful touch of color to their presentations. The staging was entrusted to well- known stenographers who transported the attendees to a completely shocking and novel world.
Some brands have already introduced clothing such as T-shirts, dresses, shirts, jackets, shoes or coats that are made from 100% sustainable materials. This is a great help for the planet and for future generations to come.
Good examples of sustainable events
But these actions are not only limited to clothing collections. Some brands have already implemented sustainability actions in their events. Whether with the reuse of materials used in walkways, the realization of modeling poses with natural light instead of artificial lighting, the recycling of used decoration or with the reduction of the number of trips for work meetings in favor of online video conferences.
Another sustainable aspect of any fashion event is the food. Some initiatives have eliminated the use of disposable plastic materials, or installed water machines to reduce the number of plastic bottles. In addition, caterings have created responsibly crafted menus to eliminate food waste.
Little by little the world in general, and sectors such as the fashion industry in particular, become aware of being more sustainable so that the planet earth will be in the future, the same as we currently know. This is everyone’s job.
