A new year has arrived and with it the list of purposes. Stop smoking, join the gym, learn new languages, read more books, stay less hours connected to social networks, make more trips… Pages and pages could be dedicated to writing wishes, projects and goals to fulfill the next twelve months of the year. Many will be fulfilled and others will be more difficult to do so. It all depends on will and constancy.
In relation to fashion we can also perform some actions in the next 365 days. Sustainability, circular economy and environmental care continue to knock on our doors to improve the quality of life on planet earth.
For this we can renounce to fast fashion, the typology of fashion that is creating and selling clothes that we can consider to wear and throw away, very cheap and of little quality. Do we need that many clothes or are we buying above our demand?
Another good purpose can be found in starting to wear recycled clothing or garments made from organic materials and fabrics. Ethical fashion is increasingly being implemented by brands.
Another sustainable and ecological goal for this new year may be to renounce the use of garments made from animal skins. On the market there are countless textiles extracted from plants, trees and all kinds of natural flora. In addition, it’s already a reality the creation of garments using 3D printers, something that anyone can do in their own home if they have this machine and can download designs from the internet.
Sustainable fashion will undoubtledly achieve a better world . But this purpose shouldn’t just be a task for governments and the clothing industry. It’s a job that society in general and people in particular must welcome as their own.
